Boris Eifman’s anniversary

“I have been making my way toward a ballet based on the novel Crime and Punishment my entire life. At times I would begin working on it, only to set it aside again, because I realized that I was not yet capable of mastering it. I believe we have succeeded in creating a production that opens up new possibilities for the ballet art of ballet of the 21st century.”

On July 22, Boris Eifman will celebrate his 80th birthday. On the day of the choreographer’s anniversary, the Company will present a choreographic interpretation of Fyodor Dostoevsky’s great masterpiece at the Moscow Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Music Theatre. Premiered in 2024, the production has already earned acclaim from both audiences and critics. Moscow admirers of Eifman Ballet, as well as those planning to visit Russia’s capital in July, still have a chance to attend this truly historic performance of the ballet Crime and Punishment, which was recently honored with the Golden Mask Russian National Theatre Award.

The July 22 performance will take place as part of the Chereshnevy Les Open Arts Festival and will serve as the centerpiece of the Company’s extended Moscow season, which begins on July 14. The tour schedule also includes productions Molière Passion, or The Mask of Don Juan, Anna Karenina, The Pygmalion Effect, The Seagull. A Ballet Story, and Rodin, Her Eternal Idol, all cherished by hundreds of thousands of spectators around the world.
